{"id":659,"date":"2013-12-12T09:40:32","date_gmt":"2013-12-12T04:10:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/old.anandandanand.com\/oldupdates\/?p=659"},"modified":"2016-10-07T10:30:25","modified_gmt":"2016-10-07T05:00:25","slug":"effigies-burned-in-fight-against-piracy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/old.anandandanand.com\/oldupdates\/effigies-burned-in-fight-against-piracy\/","title":{"rendered":"Effigies burned in  fight against piracy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #f88c00;\"><em>Dusshera\u00a0celebrations at Anand and Anand saw the burning of effigies of three characters from the epic that is the Ramayana.\u00a0But this was a burning of effigies with a difference.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Effigies of the quintessential antagonist\u00a0Ravana; his brother\u00a0Kumbhakarna, famed for his monstrous size and great hunger; and his warrior son Meghnad, as they\u00a0inflamed, raised awareness of the importance of intellectual property rights with all three\u00a0bearing\u00a0labels describing key aspects of the war against piracy.\u00a0Kumbhakarna was labelled &#8220;counterfeiter&#8221;, Meghnad was labelled &#8220;bad man&#8221; and Ravana displayed\u00a0the label &#8220;good over evil&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Pravin Anand\u00a0surmised,\u00a0&#8220;We are in a world of symbols and symbols carry a powerful message.
